Target's price match: what it matches, how to ask, and the holiday window

What Target will match, how to ask in a store or online, what counts as proof, what is excluded, and how the holiday window works this year, from Target's own help page.

The short answer

Target says it will match the price if you buy a qualifying item at Target and then find the identical item for less at Target.com, in Target stores or with a Target Circle deal. Price matches can be requested at the time of purchase or within 14 days after. (Target)

So it is a match against Target's own prices. Target also says it does not price match items on comparison-shopping sites, because the price must be validated by a team member on Target.com or Target's digital ad. (Target) For other stores, see our guide on which stores price match.

The holiday window this year

Target says that starting November 1, 2026, if you buy an item in store or online and the price goes lower at Target on or before December 24, 2026, you can request a price match. Proof of purchase is required. (Target)

That is a longer window than the usual 14 days. Outside the holiday dates, the 14-day rule applies. (Target)

What counts as proof

Target says to show the price on your mobile device from Target.com, or the digital version of the ad, and a team member will verify it on a Target device. Screenshots or pictures cannot be accepted. (Target)

For a Target Circle deal, Target says proof requires member sign in, sign up or a mobile number entered at checkout. (Target) If you use the Target app, it must be showing the price of the current store location. (Target)

What Target won't match

Target lists these cases. (Target)

Target also says price match of items sold by Target.com, or prices through the Target app, are not available in Alaska and Hawaii. (Target) Target Plus Partner items have separate rules, and Target items can't be price matched to Target Plus items. (Target)
