Walmart's price match: it matches Walmart.com, not other stores

Updated October 26, 2026 · Everything below comes from the Walmart Price Match Policy on Walmart's corporate Policies and Guidelines page (marked updated June 8, 2023), read on that date. The link is at the bottom. Walmart can change the policy, so check its page before you rely on it.

The short answer

Walmart says that for items bought in a Walmart U.S. store, it will match the price of the identical item advertised on Walmart.com, with restrictions. (Walmart) It does not match other retailers. Walmart lists "competitor's online or in-store prices" among the prices it does not match. (Walmart)

So if you want a competitor's lower price, Walmart's policy won't get you there. See our guide on which stores price match for stores that do.

How an in-store match works

• You must tell the Walmart associate the price at the time of checkout. (Walmart)
• The identical item (same size, model, quantity, brand or color) must be in stock and available to buy on Walmart.com when you ask. (Walmart)
• Some matches need a supervisor's approval, which can make the transaction take longer. (Walmart)
• Walmart reserves the right to limit quantities to one per customer, per item, per day. (Walmart)
• The store manager on duty has the final decision on any price match. (Walmart)
• Walmart says matching of items sold on Walmart.com isn't available in Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico. (Walmart)

What Walmart says it won't match

• Competitors' online or in-store prices.
• Walmart.com prices on special events, including clearance, Rollback, Black Friday or Cyber Monday deals, and other limited-time promotions.
• Prices from Walmart Marketplace retailers or other third-party sellers.
• Bundle offers, instant rebates, mail-in offers, offers that include financing, ads that require a purchase to receive a gift card, percentage-off offers, and buy-one-get-one ads with no specified price.
• Prices from other Walmart or Neighborhood Market stores.

All of those are from the same policy. (Walmart)

Purchases on Walmart.com

Walmart says it does not offer price matching on Walmart.com. It names items on its own website, competitors' prices, items you bought on Walmart.com that later dropped in price, Marketplace and third-party seller prices, and items in Walmart stores or Neighborhood Markets. (Walmart) Walmart's help page repeats that it does not price match items purchased from Walmart.com that later decrease in price. (Walmart Help)

How to use this when you shop

• Know what you're matching. It is Walmart.com against the Walmart store, not another retailer.
• Check that it's in stock online. Walmart requires the item to be available on Walmart.com when you ask.
• Skip event pricing. Rollback, clearance and Black Friday prices are excluded.
• Ask at checkout. Walmart says to tell the associate at the time of checkout.
