Kohl's price match and price adjustment: the rules, the exclusions and how to ask

The short answer

Kohl's says that on request its stores may match a competitor's in-store price, and will also match Kohls.com pricing, on an identical item. It says Kohl's stores do not price match competitors' online pricing. (Kohl's)

How to get a price match in a store

Kohl's says the quickest and easiest way is to visit your local Kohl's store. You must print a copy of the competitor's local ad showing an identical product you want to buy from Kohl's. The ad has to include the current price, a description of the item, and the competitor's current, valid retail or sale price. (Kohl's)

How to get a price match on Kohls.com items

For items on Kohls.com, Kohl's says it will match a direct competitor's online price when three things are true. The competitor must be a non-wholesale retailer with physical stores and an online presence. The product must be identical to the one sold on Kohls.com, and the price must be verifiable on the competitor's website. The competitor's product must also be new and in the box. Kohl's says any unverifiable detail will result in the request being denied. (Kohl's)

Other rules for price matches

• Dollar-off and percentage-off coupons can't be applied to a price-matched product.
• Kohl's Cash and Kohl's Rewards can be earned and redeemed on price-matched products.
• Kohl's reserves the right to limit quantities and to use discretion in applying the policy.
• Coupon-excluded merchandise isn't eligible for a price match.

Price adjustments: when the price drops after you buy

Kohl's says you could be eligible for a price adjustment if you meet all three of these. (Kohl's)

1. You bought an item on sale or at regular price at a Kohl's store or on Kohls.com.
2. The item's sale or regular price is now lower than the sale or regular price you paid within the prior two weeks.
3. You have the original, dated sales receipt.

Not eligible: clearance markdowns, Kohl's Cares merchandise, and items bought as part of a Buy One, Get One (BOGO) deal or currently part of a BOGO promotion.

• In-store purchases must be adjusted in a store.
• Online purchases must be adjusted by contacting Kohl's Customer Service.
• Coupons: a coupon used on your original purchase must still be valid for it to apply to a price adjustment.
• Blackout periods: Kohl's says it may, from time to time, name additional time periods when price adjustments aren't available.

How to use this when you shop

• Print the competitor's ad before you go. For an in-store match, Kohl's wants a printed local ad with the item, price and valid dates.
• Match the exact item. The policy says identical, so compare model or style numbers, not just the name.
• Don't plan a match around a coupon. Coupons can't be applied to a price-matched item.
• Keep your receipt. A price adjustment needs the original, dated receipt, and the price drop has to fall within two weeks.

Common questions

Does Kohl's price match online prices?
