Which stores price match?

Target, Best Buy, Walmart and Lowe’s each have different rules. Here’s who they match, the fine print, and how to ask.

Updated October 2, 2026

You find the TV, the blender or the vacuum you want, and then you see it for less somewhere else. A price match can save you the trip — but every store's rules are different, and the fine print is where most requests get turned down. Here's what four big US retailers say in their own policies, checked on October 2, 2026, plus how to ask so the answer is yes.

Two terms first. A price match is when a store lowers its price to match a cheaper price you found. A price adjustment is when a store refunds the difference after its own price drops on something you already bought. Some stores do one, some do both, and some only match themselves.

Target: matches Target, not other stores

Target's Price Match Guarantee covers a lower price on Target.com, at another Target store (for in-store purchases), and Target Circle deals. Target says it does not price match items on comparison-shopping sites or at other retailers. (Target)

In practice, Target's policy works as a 14-day price adjustment: if Target drops the price after you buy, ask for the difference.

Best Buy: matches a named list of competitors

Best Buy matches lower prices from a published list of “Qualified Competitors”: Abt, Amazon, Apple, B&H Photo Video, BJ's Wholesale Club, BrandsMart USA, Costco, Crutchfield, Dick's Sporting Goods, Home Depot, Lowe's, Menards, Micro Center, Nebraska Furniture Mart, P.C. Richard, RC Willey, Sam's Club, Target and Walmart. Items sold by third-party marketplace sellers on those sites don't count. (Best Buy)

Walmart: stores match Walmart.com only

Walmart says its U.S. stores will match the price of the identical item advertised on Walmart.com, with restrictions, and the store manager on duty has the final say. (Walmart)

Lowe's: matches other retailers, with a long list of exceptions

Lowe's says that if you find a lower price on an identical in-stock item from another local retailer, it will match the price. For online retailers, the competitor has to be able to ship the item to your location. (Lowe's)

How to get a yes

  1. Match the model number exactly. “Identical” is in every policy. Around big sale events, some TVs and appliances come in slightly different model numbers, and a near-match is a no.
  2. Check who's selling it. Best Buy, Walmart and Lowe's all exclude third-party marketplace sellers. On a big retailer's website, make sure the item is sold by the retailer itself.
  3. Make sure it's in stock. Best Buy and Lowe's both require the competitor to actually have it available.
  4. Have the live page ready. Some stores accept a photo or printout; Target won't accept screenshots. A live web page on your phone works almost everywhere.
  5. Ask before you pay when you can. It's simpler than a refund afterward, and some stores only match at the time of purchase.
  6. Set a reminder for price drops. Target's 14-day window and Best Buy's return-period match on its own price only help if you check.

Policies change, and stores can update them at any time. Before a big purchase, open the store's own policy page (linked below) to confirm the current rules.

Common questions

Does Target price match Amazon or Walmart?

No. Target's policy matches lower prices on Target.com, at other Target stores and Target Circle deals only. It does not match other retailers or comparison-shopping sites.

Does Best Buy price match on Black Friday?

Not during the holiday window. Best Buy's policy excludes price matching from the Thursday before Thanksgiving through the Monday after, and it never matches Black Friday pricing.

Does Walmart price match Amazon?

No. Walmart stores match the identical item's price on Walmart.com, and Walmart.com doesn't price match competitors at all.
